Introducing the SDG Business Gateway.
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the world’s sustainability agenda for 2030 for addressing the world’s most urgent sustainability challenges and creating a better future for all. The success of the agenda will be based on collaborative efforts by all parties in society, including businesses.
Welcome to the SDG Business Gateway, a powerful consultation-based concept to embed the SDGs in existing business and reporting processes. For building a foundation of sustainability and transparency for lasting and durable change through 2030.
The gateway is structured as a practical three-step process. On-site coordinated actions that help companies of all types move beyond the current trend of ‘cherry-picking’, ‘SDG-washing and simply mapping activities and programs against the SDGs to driving change. It outlines a process of ‘principled prioritization’ supporting companies to identify and prioritize their SDG targets, take action and report on their progress. It also weaves together risk management and new business models that can contribute to the advancement of the SDGs.
The gateway is brought to you by La Semme, assisted and informed by the work and feedback of a range of stakeholders - particularly the UN Global Compact, World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and inspired by the participating companies of the UN Global Compact and the Certified B Corp community.

The business case for engaging with the SDGs.
“Did you know the SDGs are anticipated to generate $12 trillion worth of market opportunities per year by 2030?”
“From a business perspective I, Samantha Legierse, SDG Consultant and SDG Technical Assistant at La Semme, feel passionate to teach and inspire you on the SDG Essentials for Business.
Why the world needs the SDGs? "Nature is in trouble. People are being left behind, and the planet is facing a climate emergency.
The good news is; the most powerful framework to tackle these issues is here: SDGs! The SDGs, adopted by United Nations Member States in 2015, lay out 17 goals for the world to achieve by 2030 with a view to ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring that all people enjoy peace and prosperity."
Alright. But what's the great 'business deal’ to love?
Why the SDGs needs the business? “While it will fundamentally be up to governments to implement the SDG agenda, the simple fact is that it will not be realized without the private sector. The SDGs need business leaders to use their enormous influence to be an engine of economic growth and employment, a driver of technology and innovation, a source of financial investment, and, an actor in addressing negative impacts throughout the value chain."
What the SDGs mean for business? “Business cannot thrive unless people and planet are thriving. This includes ensuring that the world is on a path to meet all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.” - The words of António Guterres, United Nations Secretary General.
“Did you know the SDGs are anticipated to generate $12 trillion worth of market opportunities per year by 2030?”
"By identifying and mitigating risks to people and the environment and by providing new products and services that support sustainable development, businesses can capture these opportunities to benefit themselves and the markets they depend upon."
